EWJ Hitchcock Memorial Scholarship Fund
The EWJ Hitchcock Memorial Scholarship Fund was created in 2025 to continue The Hitchcock Family’s passion for education and giving back to the Salinas Community. Through this scholarship, Elmer’s dedication to the Salinas Valley, William’s passion for lifelong learning, and Joan’s generosity in philanthropy will continue on.
Amount/ Number of scholarships:
Up to $9,000/year and up to 3 scholarships
Scholarship Criteria:
1. The scholarship recipient(s) will be chosen based on the applicant’s:
• Academic achievements (e.g. honor roll, National Honor Society, overcoming academic challenges)
• Minimum 3.0 GPA
• Financial need will be considered, but not required
2. The applicant must:
• Be currently enrolled as a Salinas High School senior
• Submit a 250-500 word essay describing why they want to study their major/career path of choice
• Include 1 letter of recommendation from employer, teacher, coach, or non-family member.
To claim the award funds, the winning student must:
• Enroll in an in the California State University (CSU) system or Oregon State University, or an accredited trade school.
• As a full-time student
• Majoring in Agricultural Business or Agricultural Science, Architecture, Engineering, or Kinesiology by Fall semester after receiving the award
■ Send the Claim Form provided by CFMC along with official proof of his or her enrollment to the Community Foundation.
